The Heard Foundation in conjunction with St. Augustine High School presented its first scholarship in August 2017. In keeping with its historic mission, St. Augustine High School offers a high quality, nurturing academic experience to African-American male students eager to learn in a Catholic, values based environment. St. Augustine accepts a wide range of students with differing academic backgrounds and financial resources. More than 72% of the students who choose to attend St. Augustine qualify for free or reduced lunch. Many of these students rely on the generosity of friends and supporters of the school to help fund their education. Scholarship assistance remains perhaps the most critical tool in ensuring that financially disadvantaged students are not deprived the opportunity to graduate and become proud Purple Knights.
The Heard Foundation entrusted St. Augustine High School to establish and manage the Heard Foundation Scholarship Fund. This 4 year scholarship fund was created on August 10, 2017 with an initial $7,500 pledge commitment to be paid each year.
The first recipient of the Heard Foundation Scholarship was Lester Dyer.
